Job Details
Summary:
The State of Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking a detail-oriented Data QA Tester to ensure quality, accuracy, and reliability of data throughout its lifecycle—from ingestion into our medallion architecture (Azure, Databricks, Snowflake) through delivery of Power BI dashboards and reports. This role requires expertise in cloud data platforms and business intelligence tools with a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of data integrity. The ideal candidate will have strong technical testing skills, experience in agile environments, and the ability to develop automated test scripts tailored to data and reporting needs.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with product owners and scrum teams to understand acceptance criteria and translate them into comprehensive test cases
· Design and execute test plans for data ingestion and transformations across medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers), validating business logic and data quality rules at each stage
• Execute manual and automated test cases to validate data accuracy, completeness, and consistency
• Identify, document, and track defects and data issues, working closely with developers to ensure timely resolution
• Develop and maintain automated testing scripts using SQL and Python to improve testing efficiency and scalability
• Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies, contributing to sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives
• Support continuous improvement of QA processes and documentation.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in ETL and/or BI QA testing
· Strong understanding of medallion architecture and hands-on experience with Azure (Data Factory, Data Lake, Synapse), Databricks, and Snowflake (preferred)
• Proficiency in Excel, SQL, and Python for test automation and data validation
• Experience testing Power BI cloud-based reporting platforms(preferred)
• Strong understanding of Agile development methodologies
· Experience with test management and defect tracking tools (Jira preferred); strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• We're looking for a self-motivated team member who can work independently in a fully remote Agile environment - someone who takes ownership of their work, communicates proactively, and drives progress without needing close supervision
Skills & Competencies:
• Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply business domain knowledge to testing scenarios
• The ideal candidate thrives in a distributed Scrum team, managing their own deliverables and staying accountable through clear, consistent communication
