Senior Backend Java Developer
Location: Atlanta, GA (Onsite 4 days/week, Monday–Thursday; 1 day remote/Friday)
Contract Duration: 6 months minimum (likely to extend)
Overview:
Client is seeking a Senior Backend Java Developer to join an internal application development team building custom applications that integrate with SAP systems. This is a contract role based onsite in Atlanta, GA, with the potential to support multiple projects over time. The ideal candidate is a self-driven, senior-level engineer who can hit the ground running, understand architecture, and start producing code within the first few days.
Must Have Skills (in order of importance):
1. Java & Spring Boot— 5–7+ years of experience developing Java & Spring Boot applications
2. Event-Driven Architecture— Hands-on experience working with event-driven frameworks
3. SAP Experience— understanding of supply chain concepts and experience building applications that integrate with SAP
4. Self-Driven & Autonomous— Ability to work independently, understand codebase architecture, and produce code without needing step-by-step direction
5. Cloud Experience— Google Cloud Platform (GCP) preferred; 2+ years ideal (other cloud experience may be acceptable)
Nice to Have Skills:
• React— Some frontend experience is a plus but not required (less React is acceptable)
• Jenkins— CI/CD pipeline experience
• GitHub— Version control and collaboration tooling familiarity
• Onsite/Offshore Experience— Prior experience working in mixed onsite-offshore team environments
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
• Build and develop internal custom applications primarily using Java and Spring Boot
• Design and work within an event-driven framework architecture
• Build applications that integrate with SAP systems — not coding directly in the SAP codebase, but developing standalone apps that connect with it
• Leverage basic understanding of SAP fundamentals and supply chain concepts to inform integration work
• Work within Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for cloud infrastructure and services
• Get up to speed quickly — gain access within the first few days, get your feet wet, and start producing code with minimal onboarding
• Work autonomously: understand the codebase architecture, determine what to do next, and unblock yourself without waiting for direction
• Collaborate with peers, architects, and offshore team members on a regular basis
• Contribute to multiple upcoming projects beyond the initial assignment as the team scales
• Utilize CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and GitHub for build, deployment, and version control
