SQL DBA - Database Assessment & Modernization
Location: Dallas / Austin, TX - Hybrid
Hiring Mode: CTH / Full Time
Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of hands-on experience in SQL Server Database Administration.
• Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2014/2016/2019/2022.
• Hands-on experience with SQL Server installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, maintenance, and administration.
• Strong experience conducting SQL Server database assessments, health checks, inventory reviews, and environment analysis.
• Expertise in database performance tuning, including query performance, execution plans, indexing, wait statistics, blocking, deadlocks, and resource utilization.
• Strong experience with Always On Availability Groups, Log Shipping, Replication, Failover Clustering, and HA/DR strategies.
• Experience assessing backup, recovery, disaster recovery, RTO/RPO, and recovery testing.
• Strong understanding of database security, access controls, authentication, encryption, auditing, and monitoring.
• Hands-on experience with SQL Agent, database maintenance jobs, DBCC/consistency checks, and capacity management.
• Experience with DMVs, Extended Events, SQL Profiler, Performance Monitor, and SQL diagnostic tools.
• Experience with SQL Server migration and modernization, including DMA, SSMA, Azure Database Migration Service, or similar tools.

• Review database inventory, versions, configurations, infrastructure dependencies, workloads, and growth trends.
• Perform detailed database performance assessments and identify bottlenecks and optimization opportunities.
• Analyze query performance, wait statistics, execution plans, indexes, blocking, deadlocks, and resource utilization.
• Assess SQL Server administration practices, maintenance jobs, SQL Agent jobs, patching, upgrades, and capacity management.
• Evaluate existing HA/DR architecture, including Always On, Log Shipping, Replication, Clustering, and failover strategies.
• Assess backup and recovery strategies, retention policies, recovery testing, and disaster recovery readiness.
